Imagine travelling from Chennai to Bengaluru in less than 30 minutes for a fraction of the cost of air travel today. It sounds exciting as it was only read in comic books about fast travel. But, if things work out, we might just see and travel on superfast transportation in our times. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hyperloop Technologies are pitching the idea to bring Hyperloop in India.

As Elon Musk struggles in acquiring land rights for testing his futuristic Hyperloop project in the United States, India has emerged out of nowhere to offer him a helping hand. The concept of Hyperloop has been trademarked by SpaceX. It is guiding Hyperloop Technologies and Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) to implement the project.

The technology used is a linear induction motor and air compressors to drive capsules. The project has been tested out successfully without humans. The project is looking for ways to make this travel experience safe and comfortable before officially getting people on board.

Hyperloop may be born in 2013 in the USA, but it’s for sure travelling sooner than expected overseas. The company already has the construction of a five-mile Hyperloop test track in Quay Valley, California. The company expects a top speed of 1,200 km per hour. This miniature version boasts the speed of almost 745 miles per hour and is expected to be completed by 2019. Since Hyperloop Transportation Technologies is using renewable technology along with kinetic energy to operate the track, the operational prices should be relatively low.

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) is not the only company working on the Hyperloop concept. However, India might not be the only country graced with such a high-speed system. Hyperloop One, another U.S. based company also attempting to turn Elon Musk’s dream into a reality. Back in June, the company has announced a partnership with the Summa Group, which is a Russian port and oil business for the same concept.

Sources say Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has been talking to Elon Musk regarding his futuristic technologies and Hyperloop is one of them. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also confirmed that there indeed have been some discussions between the governments. But was quick to add that Maharashtra has asked the company to develop the product first before testing in the state.

Gadkari has expressed interest in clean energy like solar and battery storage. The areas in which the American company is focused on. He has also encouraged Musk to set up a manufacturing base in Pune. Tesla has been offered land for free of cost near some ports.
